Water Balance Model
The substantial benefits to the user in applying the “Water Balance Model powered by QUALHYMO” are three-fold: first, source control types are pre-defined; secondly, there is the ability to quickly create the QUALHYMO input files; and thirdly, the standardized output allows easy and quick review by regulatory agencies.
The web-based “Water Balance Model powered by QUALHYMO” integrates the site with the watershed, stream and groundwater aquifer. This scenario comparison tool underpins Beyond the Guidebook, a provincial initiative to advance implementation of green infrastructure policies and practices throughout British Columbia.
The coming together of a group of change agents in October 1997 set in motion a chain of events that has reverberated through time. By 2003, this led to launching of the web-based Water Balance Model for British Columbia.
Jim Dumont is the Engineering Applications Authority for the Water Balance Model Partnership. He is a recognized specialist in hydrologic modelling. For many years, he has been teaching modelling seminars as part of the professional development program provided by the Association Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC. Jim Dumont evolved the Water Balance Methodology to address the relationship between rainfall volume control and flow rates in streams.
