Tiered Access to the Model

  • Free 30-Day Trial Account enables General Users to test model capabilities

The Water Balance Model powered by QUALHYMO is a public domain, on-line decision support and scenario modeling tool for promoting rainwater management and stream health protection through implementation of "green" development practices. The long-term vision is to enable better land use decisions by addressing some of the gaps in existing models, providing a useful tool for users, and advancing knowledge and the state-of-the-practice about rainwater source controls.

    Categories of Model Users

The British Columbia Inter-Governmental Partnership has established three categories of model users, each with a different degree of access to the various features of the Water Balance Model powered by QUALHYMO:

    • General User: Has limited access and no flexibility to customize, and will be restricted to default values for input parameters, including climate data.

    • Paying Subscriber: Any individual, company or group that pays an annual "fee for service" will have password-protected access that provides some flexibility to customize values for some input parameters. (A Paying Subscriber will be able to access the soils and land use databases for all provincial partners.)

    • Project Partner: Has password-protected access and total flexibility to customize the database for input parameters.

    Free Trial versus Paid Accounts

General Users are limited to registering under the Free Trial Account category. The account and any scenarios created by the General User will be deleted seven (7) days from the date of registration. The distinction between Free Trial and Paid accounts is summarized in the table below. Only a Paying Subscriber can model a detention pond or a watershed.

Scenarios created by Paying Subscribers or members of subscribing groups will remain in the database for the duration of the subscription period.

    Annual Subscription Fee

The Annual Subscription Fee for Paying Subscribers is $1000, payable within 30 days of the date of registration. This fee funds the ongoing maintenance and administration of the portal for the Water Balance Model powered by QUALHYMO, the communication and outreach program of the partnership, and aspects of the ongoing enhancement of the model.
